Upcoming Events Saturday, February 18 Genealogy Dectectives Workshop 9am-2:30pm Are you someone who likes family history? Do you need help getting organized in your genealogy work? Do you find it difficult to go to research libraries because they are only open during the week or hours that are inconvenient to you? Then participate in one of our Genealogy Detectives Workshops! Participants will receive some information on getting organized with their genealogy work and then be allowed to spend most of the time being a genealogy detective in search of their family history. Preregistration is required and space is limited to first 8 paid registrations. This will allow us to provide the most one on one assistance that we can to participants. Cost is $30 for members and $40 for non-members. The registration fee includes: snack/beverage for workshop breaks, 20 free copies, class handouts, internet access, and access to all our library collections. General Information Position Opening: Township Records Microfilming Coordinator The Mower County Historical Society has a temporary position opening for a Township Records Microfilming Coordinator. This position is a temporary 20 hour per week position for 13 weeks. Details on the position can be found in the job announcement. Brochure Mower County History Awards Nominations are needed for the inaugural class of Mower County History Awards. Awards will be given out in two categories: Historic Businesses and Historic Landmarks. Nominees must have been built or established in the year 1937 or earlier. Winners of the Historic Business category will receive a plaque that can be displayed in their offices and Historic Landmarks will receive a marker to go on their building or structure. There is a fee for the program which is paid by the nominator at the time of submission. Winners will be announced on March 1, 2012. Applications and criteria for Historic Businesses and Historic Landmarks can be downloaded from this site or picked up at the MCHS Administration Building. A volunteer selection committee will review the applications and make the award decisions. If you would like to serve on this committee, please contact Dustin.
